Рецензия на книгу Джей Ди Робб- Деббиш «Смерть в рамке»

Goodreads Manhattan is filled with galleries and deep-pocketed collectors who can make an artist's career with a wave of a hand. But one man toils in obscurity, his brilliance unrecognized while lesser talents bask in the glory he believes should be his. Come tomorrow, he vows, the city will be buzzing about his work. Indeed, before dawn, Lt. Eve Dallas is speeding toward the home of the two gallery owners whose doorway has been turned into a horrifying crime scene overnight. A lifeless young woman has been elaborately costumed and precisely posed to resemble the model of a long-ago Dutch master. Can Eve unravel the twisted mind of a serial killer before he strikes again… The okay thing about missing books in this series is that each book usually covers a few days and the next picks up shortly after. So, while we have traversed 30 years since book 1, in the world of Dallas, Roarke, Peabody et al only 3 years have passed and we’ve moved from 2058 to 2061. One of the reasons I love this series is because it’s predictable, therefore akin to a comfort read to me. I know what to expect and they usually deliver. I realise some might say they’re formulaic but given Robb is 60+ books in, readers don’t seem to mind. I enjoyed this though it dragged a little in the first half. I usually enjoy Robb’s balance between the characters’ professional and personal lives so I’m not sure that’s why this felt slow-going. I felt like I wasn’t making any headway for a long time… as if the investigation wasn’t getting anywhere. And then it takes off and (happily) takes us to a satisfying conclusion. We spend quite a bit of time in the head of our perpetrator here which isn’t hugely common in this series as it’s usually Dallas trying to put herself in the mind of the killer. I also appreciated that there’s a moment or two where old money and power may prevail over justice but (again, happily) all is well in New York circa 2061.
