It's another collaboration between the actor and director Yorgos Lanthimos, following The Favourite, Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness. The plot follows Stone as the CEO of an influential company who is kidnapped by two men who are convinced that she is an alien sent to the planet as part of an invasion plan. There's a dark backstory going on, and the film touches on the themes of late-stage capitalism and climate change. "Stone has done some of her best work with Lanthimos, including in Poor Things, one of her two Oscar-winning performances, and it’s clearly a wonderful collaboration," wrote The Nightly . "Her timing is impeccable and she has this ability to command and hold your attention. But as much as Stone is fabulous, as she almost always is, Bugonia belongs to [Jesse] Plemons."
