When Lost first arrived in 2004 on ABC, sci fi was mostly shunned by the broadcast networks and the show played down its genre elements early in its run. But it delivered an interesting set of characters and delved into their backstories while also hinting at the mysteries of the island and a grander story that was unfolding. The show would prove to be a surprise hit and would continue for six seasons and it started to fully embrace its sci fi side by its second year. When it eventually wrapped up, the finale was divisive, but the story of the characters and the island still made the journey worth the effort. And throughout the series, this one was always about those characters and the actors who brought them to life. With a lesser cast, Lost may never have reached the same heights, but the actors were perfectly suited to their parts and demonstrated a palpable chemistry that raised this series to the next level. Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Locke (and later Ben) may have been accepted as the lead characters, but the supporting cast and even the one-off parts stood out to make this a true ensemble drama. Sayid, Hurley, Charlie, Walt, Sun, Desmond, Juliet, and the many, many other characters that appeared on the show became just as important as the leads and helped carry the series. Lost is an intricate tale with intertwining storylines and a plethora of characters, and it is one of those shows that deserves to be revisited and that benefits from binge-viewing. You can get the Hulu service in a bundle with Disney+ and/or ESPN+, depending on which plan you select .
