Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky The Costume Designers Guild has announced nominations for the 28th Costume Designers Guild Awards, with One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Weapons, Avatar: Fire and Ash and Frankenstein among the film mentions for contemporary, period and sci-fi/fantasy. Colleen Atwood, a CDG and Oscar favorite, was a triple nominee this morning across three different categories. Atwood is nominated in the excellence in contemporary film for One Battle After Another, alongside Mark Sutherland in excellence in contemporary television for Wednesday and for designing the costumes of Lady Gaga’s “The Dead Dance” music video. Notable misses included Jay Kelly, Marty Supreme and The Testament of Ann Lee. Eligibility rules for the film categories are as follows: A.) Excellence in Contemporary Film – Any entry with at least 55% of all costumes (including background) existing within the last 25 years from the current award year [on or after January 1, 2000] will be considered a Contemporary Film entry. B.) Excellence in Period Film -Any entry with at least 55% of all costumes (including background) existing in a historical era, or a stylized historical era, greater than 25 years [on or before December 31, 1999] from the current entry year will be considered a Period Film entry. C.) Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film – Any entry with at least 15% of all costumes (including background) being Science Fiction or Fantasy, i.e., costumes that are not reality-based, but based on a fictitious, magical, mythical, and/or alternate world, will be considered a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film entry. On the TV side, Emmy winners Michael Wilkinson (Andor) and Kameron Lennox (The Studio) landed nominations alongside The Gilded Age, The Righteous Gemstones, 1923 and Murderbot. “We are proud to congratulate this year’s CDGA nominees.
