Chris Pratt Celebrates 15 Years of Wanted By Remembering How James McAvoy Hit Him in the Face With a Keyboard Watch the latest trailer for Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson sci-fi thriller, Mercy The project marks a reunion between Pratt and director Timur Bekmambetov, who previously worked together on 2008's Wanted . Since then, Bekmambetov has become a proponent of what he calls "Screenlife," a found footage-esque type of storytelling told through the screens of modern devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. "I believe that Screenlife is not [bound by] genre, it’s more like a language and different filmmakers can use this language to tell their stories and I’m sure it’s not gimmicky because it’s not like found footage," the filmmaker told SYFY WIRE in 2018 . "Found footage is another way [of] making movies about our reality, but Screenlife movies [are] movies about [a] different reality because we’re living it now." Based on the footage above, it looks like Mercy will marry traditional and Screenlife approaches as Pratt's character feverishly pulls up every shred of evidence he can find. "It’s an investigation where, rather than open the files and rifle through them, he can control the screens in the space," the director added during a recent conversation with Cinema Scholars . "This is his experience, the character’s, and it’s the audience’s experience. In the IMAX theaters, we will see the screens flying in the theater." In addition to directing, Bekmambetov also serves as producer alongside Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, and Majd Nassif. Mark Moran and Todd Williams are executive producers. When will Mercy be released? The film is currently slated for an exclusive theatrical release on Jan. 23, 2026. What is Mercy rated? Mercy is rated PG-13 "for violence, bloody images, some strong language, drug content and teen smoking."
