By Door County Pulse , Peninsula Pulse — November 26th, 2025 Patrick Baird will launch his new middle-grade military science fiction adventure novel, Cadetâs Crisis, during a book-signing on Friday, Nov. 28, from 10 am to 2 pm at OtherWorlds Books and More, 41 N. 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. Cadetâs Crisis takes place in the year 2153. Space Naval Cadet Jaya Bam leaves his family and homeworld of Demeter to join the crew of the space cruiser Canberra for one year of cadet training. He is joined by several other cadets who struggle to fit in among the crew. As the Canberra enters an unexplored star system, they are attacked by a mysterious ship, and the boys must step up to help defeat their deadly enemy. âCadetâs Crisis is aimed at stimulating interest in books by middle-grade male readers, ages 10-14,â author Baird said. âIn addition to providing fun adventure, Cadetâs Crisis promotes the values of friendship, bravery and military service.â Baird is the author of nine novels, most recently Van Hokeâs Caper, a Door County crime novel set during the Prohibition.
