Кампания фанатов за то, чтобы фильм Джона Карпентера «The Thing» стал рождественской классикой — SYFY

Kurt Russell and John Carpenter Discussed the Ending of The Thing "For a Long, Long Time" The campaign, dubbed #Thingmas, was launched in support of CREATORVC’s The Thing Expanded documentary. Billed as the ultimate love letter to The Thing, the people who made it, and the communities who love it. The Thing Expanded is a documentary celebration of the film, diving deep into related media including the 2011 remake, video game sequel, comic books, merch, Campbell’s novella, and more. Viewers will also get in-depth analysis from director John Carpenter alongside interviews with surviving cast members and industry heavy hitters like Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro, Stephen Colbert, and others. “If Die Hard can become a Christmas classic, so can The Thing,” says Robin Block, executive producer of The Thing Expanded, in a Nov. 25 press release. “This petition gives fans a clear outcome: a formal request for IMDb and Letterboxd  to recognize it as part of the holiday canon.” The Thing famously did poorly at the box office upon release, earning just $19.6 million on a $15 million budget. Part of the problem was likely its summer release in June of 1982. Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial had hit theaters just two weeks earlier, offering a gentler and more family friendly alien experience. The movie only really found its footing on home video. “Given The Thing’s frigid backdrop, one has to wonder if the film might have fared better with a December release,” concludes The Thing Expanded producer and co-writer Josh Weiss. “While we can’t change the past, we can celebrate the fact that John Carpenter’s sci-fi/horror masterpiece has become a holiday season staple among fans over the last 43 years. Moreover, it’s packed with enough detail to surprise even the most die-hard fans on repeat viewings, effectively making The Thing a literal gift that keeps on giving. Having it classified as a bona fide Christmas movie just feels right!” Read more about: Source: https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/fan-petition-to-reclassify-the-thing-a-christmas-movie
