According to Enigma – touted as “the #1 destination for UFO sighting alerts and aerial intelligence" – there’s been an uptick in unexplained phenomena on the East and West Coasts of the United States. But it’s not in the air; they’re coming from the water. Since August 2025, the app has logged over 9,000 sightings off U.S. shorelines, many of which have been within five miles of the coast. And the greatest area for sightings? California has recorded 389 documented sightings, and Florida has 306. “There could be an entire advanced civilization coexisting with us here on planet earth,” Media Relations Director for MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network), Ron James, said. “They could be inside the earth, or they could be underwater. It could be a combination of extraterrestrials that have bases here, or there’s the very real possibility that we’re dealing with an actual additional sentient race here on planet earth.” One of the more prominent videos circulating shows two glowing green lights, as captured from a boat, off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. (See the video above.) So, what are these underwater unidentified phenomena, and how do they differ from typical, flying saucer UFOs? Here’s Marine Technology News : “Unidentified Submersible Objects (USOs) refer to any object or phenomenon detected underwater that cannot be immediately identified or explained. The term is similar to UFO/UAP but applies specifically to subsurface or underwater contexts. From medieval chronicles to present-day Navy radar logs, witnesses have reported observations both with the naked eye and through sensors like sonar. They are often described as moving at extraordinary speeds, taking sudden changes of direction with impossible precision, and transitioning between water and air without leaving a ripple — ‘transmedium’ capabilities.” Previously, in 2019, the USS Omaha recorded an unidentified craft off the coast of San Diego, which then submerged into the ocean without a trace. In regards to that sighting, which was verified by the Pentagon, retired Navy Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet wrote in a 2024 report that the technology “jeopardizes U.S. maritime security, which is already weakened by our relative ignorance about the global ocean.” Gallaudet continued: “The fact that unidentified objects with unexplainable characteristics are entering US water space and the DOD is not raising a giant red flag is a sign that the government is not sharing all it knows about all-domain anomalous phenomena.” This article first appeared on SURFER and was syndicated with permission.
