Старшеклассники восхищаются улучшениями в школе H-F во время экскурсии — Хоумвуд-Хроника Флоссмура

Reduced state revenue sullies H-F financial picture October 24, 2025 Positive comments were heard throughout the morning on Friday, Oct. 24, during the annual senior citizens breakfast and open house at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. Because there was no school that day, H-F administrators got to show off the school’s newest space. The breakfast was hosted in the Science Wing’s two-story atrium. The back wall is painted a vivid green and is decorated with geometric shapes in shades of greens, grays and whites. The new Science Wing officially opened to students this semester. (Marilyn Thomas/H-F Chronicle) Music performed by members of the H-F Vikings Orchestra could be heard as more than 100 guests enjoyed a breakfast of vegetable egg casserole prepared with spinach, onions and bell peppers, pan seared hash browns with peppers and onions, a tasty apple and cranberry compote, buttermilk biscuits, pork bacon and turkey sausages prepared and served by students in the culinary program. This was a Halloween themed event, and Mary Novak of Homewood won the prize for a guest in the best costume. She portrayed a queen and gave guests the traditional hand wave. Students in the theater department told the guests about their upcoming play, and Victoria Koblick, director of Alumni Relation, was assisted by students from the Key Club and National Honor Society who led a 20-question H-F trivia showdown. 1) What year did H-F open?  2) How many courses does H-F offer? 3) What action did 1987 alum Michelle Chen do that many consider right out of a sci-fi horror movie? 4) In 1996, which president came to help celebrate H-F’s second Blue Ribbon award? Answers below. The queen gives her subjects a wave. Mary Novak of Homewood took the top prize in the Halloween costume contest at the Seniors Breakfast. (Marilyn Thomas/H-F Chronicle) To conclude the morning’s program, seniors took a tour of the South Building, starting in the science wing, learning how the Net Zero building is using solar and geothermal to heat and cool the space, and they got a look at the green wall of plants. Connie Kebert said the space was “amazing” and 1972 graduate Valerie Birk was delighted to see all the changes since her days at H-F. The tour concluded at the new Performing Arts Center where H-F students got to show off their work in setting the mood for a performance using lighting and sound. At the end of the tour, Ben Herman, a father of two alums, said, “Not only is the school facility amazing, but the people here are just wonderful, very positive, very responsive, very informative. I can see why this is a widely respected, highly respected school.” Breakfast invitations were extended to those who are members of the Golden Card Club open to persons 62 and older who reside within District 233.  Seniors get free admission to theater productions, and vocal, orchestral and band concerts by showing the card at the door. In addition, card holders can attend for free all regular-season sports games. Information and the application form for the Golden Card Club is at hfhighschool.org .
