The object, known as 3I/ATLAS, has been the subject of speculation for months . Initially thought to be a comet, its unusual appearance and behavior compared to other comets have left scientists, including one in particular, scratching their heads. Article continues below Harvard theoretical physicist Avi Loeb has been sounding the alarm for months that this object might be an 'extraterrestrial artifact' on a collision course with Earth. In simpler terms, we could be getting a visit from aliens today (October 29). Despite facing criticism for his theories, recent developments regarding the object have piqued interest. Images from the Hubble Space Telescope show the "comet" sporting an odd 'anti-tail' – a stream of particles jetting towards the Sun. NASA maintains that the object will merely pass by Earth without incident – but Loeb isn't so sure, reports the Daily Star . Now that the time has passed, there are a few measures we can take to brace ourselves for a potential alien invasion from the mothership. Previously referred to as an "advanced alien object", these visitors could be unlike anything we've ever encountered before. The exact location on Earth where the spacecraft might land remains uncertain, but the impact would undoubtedly be global. While scientific explanations often leave many questions unanswered, some look to literature for their alien survival guides. H. G. Wells, author of War of the Worlds, suggested that our best defense might be to simply sneeze on the "invaders". However, Loeb reassured us not to fret too much, even proposing that aliens might not be interested in our resources – they could merely be curious about us as a species. Given the "billions" of years it takes to traverse the universe, Loeb proposed that the aliens are "far more sophisticated and ahead of us humans." He went on to say: "They are much more sophisticated they wouldn't care much about us and it's actually an opportunity for us to learn about the future technologies that they posses. It would take us a long time to develop ourselves so for us it will be a learning experience." Regarding the perils of an invasion, Loeb advises not to worry. He concluded: "I see it in a very positive way." For the latest local news and features on Irish America, visit our homepage here .
