The AV Club reports the film, which is now titled “Star Wars: A New Hope,” will be re-released in 2027 on its 50th anniversary and that it will be shown in regular theaters and IMAX theaters. But the question is which version will be shown? Director George Lucas added several tweaks to the movie over the years, including a controversial change involving the character Han Solo, portrayed by Harrison Ford. In the famous “cantina” scene , Solo is confronted by Greedo, a bounty hunter threatening Solo. In the original version, Solo manages to distract Greedo and then fires his laser blaster under the table, killing Greedo. Lucas later digitally altered the scene to show Greedo firing first at Solo, who manages to somehow avoid the blast and then fire back. It was a change that was not greeted well by “Star Wars” purists, who would say “Han shot first.” Gizmodo reports there have been leaks of an upgraded “Star Wars” but fans will have to wait to see which version hits the screens in 2027.
